IP Cameras
An Internet Protocol (IP) Camera, also known as a network camera, is a closed circuit television camera that captures and streams live digital video footage over an IP network. IP cameras are primarily used for surveillance in the same way as analog closed circuit television.
The main benefits of an IP or network camera are that it is a cost effective and efficient alternative to protect remote sites and premises rather than having manned guarding. IP cameras provide a reduced system cost and added functionality, as well as reduced space requirements since the camera and computer are combined into one unit. There is also greater capability involved with the IP camera as the wireless or hardwired component allows the camera to be placed just about anywhere.
Using an IP camera results in the client being about to view live, full motion video from anywhere in the world and can be used for surveillance of both homes and businesses. Footage can be viewed and managed remotely from a web browser and is archived into digital format. Since many IP cameras can use a wireless connection, they have extensive flexibility in their placement.
A CPA Technician will assemble a number of IP cameras together with a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) or Network Video Recorder (NVR) to form a video surveillance system. These IP systems allow the end user to enhance and zoom in on a specific image, which is not normally possible with an Analog system. The IP camera also enables the client the ability to store their recorded video in a safe location aside from just the connected DVR and be accessible by multiple users without enabling access to the DVR.
